The Display Piece

For just 99p, you can win this “Battle for Brécourt” print by Larry Selman, signed by some of the men who were actually there!

The piece includes photo cards hand signed by Brécourt Manor veterans Buck Compton (depicted) and Don Malarkey, 101st & 506th patches, a piece of parachute recovered in Normandy, and a Certificate of Authenticity signed by artist Larry Selman.

It’s D-Day morning at Brécourt Manor, where a four-gun German battery has been bombarding GIs landing on Utah Beach—that is, until the Screaming Eagles arrived. Lt. Dick Winters initiated the attack at 8:30 a.m. and led his paratroopers into the gun pits. Now, with “grenades and lots of yelling and firing” they charge gun #2 and put it out of action, taking two prisoners. In short order, the battery will be silenced, demonstrating, as Winters would later write, “that remarkable ability for the airborne trooper to fight, albeit outnumbered, and to win.”

Buck Compton:

Easy Company (506th PIR, 101st Airborne), officer, veteran of D-Day and the battle for Brécourt, Market Garden, Battle of the Bulge, Silver Star, author of "Call of Duty."

Don Malarkey:
